Mediocre

This movie missed the mark in so many ways for me.

1) It's set in the '50s, but in no way did it feel like the '50s. It just felt like 1987 folk running around in kinda '50ish clothes and '50s cars.

2) There was a lot of bumbling behavior all around, both the heroes and the villains.

3) Her pregnancy meant little to the plot.

4) The shootout in the salvage yard was lame up and down and all around.

5) There was little if any chemistry between Basinger and Bridges. Bridges's performance especially looked phoned in.

I really wanted to like this movie, as I'm a fan of all of the principle actors. But it started nowhere and went nowhere. A 3 out of 10.

Disagree. They had chemistry, and the film tried on a bunch of different hats and succeeded (to varying degrees) with all of them. Nothing great, though Basinger and Bridges occasionally sizzle with their star power, but it was a pleasant little screwball throwback. I gave it 6/10. This is by no means a bad movie.

I agree; and Kim looked amazing; and Rip Torn always KNOWS how to be a Bad Guy; and Geoff Bridges on the worst day of his life is still a Movie Star; and it has a great closing-credits ditty by The Sweethearts of the Rodeo! Plus, you know, Texas. The most beautiful women on Earth come from Texas, like Kim.
