Why were Ray and Rita panicking over that deposit?

They knew Loretta all of her life. They knew her parents! Why did they suddenly think she stole from them? Sheesh, wasn't it obvious she had forgotten to make the bank drop?

I always thought they worried she'd lost it. She was extremely distracted that morning at the store when they gave it to her.
