The setting of the story

According to WikiPedia - which as we all know is always 100% accurate and reliable - The Monster Squad takes place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Now I have seen this film many, many, many times in the past 25 years, and I have never seen a shred of evidence in the film - other than the presence of a swamp - the film takes place in Baton Rouge. Seems to me it mostly takes place on the Culver City backlot and at various locations around LA.

Is there anything in the film to suggest it in fact DOES take place in Baton Rouge? I'm genuinely curious if this is the case of just someone trolling WikiPedia.

Yes, the story is set in Louisiana, though it was filmed on studio sets in Los Angeles. At the beginning of the film, several references are made to Louisiana, and when the plane is flying over the town, the ground below is in the area of Louisiana. I believe they chose this setting because Son of Dracula and at least one of the sequels to The Mummy took place in the swamps of Louisiana.

Can you elaborate any further on specific references? I've never noticed them, Granted I have never actually LOOKED for them, but still...

I was watching it the other day, and if you've ever smoked a little 420, you may notice little things that you've never seen before. So, when Dracula has Frankie in a dungeon cell, you wonder why would a mansion in the US would have a dungeon in the cellar... Van Helsing's deciples must've been slave owners at one time. But do homes have basements in the Louisiana swamp lands?
