I'm surprised they wanted to dub Lundgren's voice. He had a few lines in Rocky IV and sounded awesome in that, plus his lines in this one were great (his 'I have the power' especially).

Those lines in Rocky IV were awesome, but as He-Man he was supposed to talk a lot more and the filmmakers weren't sure about it. I'm glad they kept his vocie though.

Yeah that's true he only had a few lines in RIV but the filmmakers were crazy to worry about him having more to say in this one since He Man isn't exactly Michael Corleone.
The article also suggests Lundgren could barely speak English yet like most Swedes he had mastered the language completely by the time he finished high school, and his accent was almost non-existent. Dolph probably just had some problems with the campy dialogue (like even the best of actors do) but if they dubbed Lundgren this film would've been a joke.

I don't think his voice was bad. I don't understand why some people thought it was terrible and wanted to dub it. I'd have liked to have seen the original idea for the end fight. They were gonna use "up and down" choreography with the set. That sounds like it would have been cool.

The Danish especially as they have the reputation of speaking English better than the English themselves.

True. It's remarkable. English is almost an unofficial first language of those countries seeing since the grasp of it particularly with the more recent generations is so advanced. Their grammar, accent and vocabulary/word usage are what sets them apart - I've met a lot of Scandinavians that I actually thought were American such is their lack of any discernible accent.
Shame the rest of Europe (Germans, French, Spanish and Italians especially) don't follow the same precedent as the Scandinavians. Only the Dutch come close to the Nordics in their grasp of English. I reckon watching their native actors like Lundgren helped. They're big fans of American and british pop culture (movies, TV, music) and that's a big reason they're so good at the language.

One of the secrets - Scandinavians don't dub American movies and tv-shows. From their childhood they watching English-language films with subtitles (and a lot of films). Other Europeans dub hollywood film to their native languages.
shareThat's true, it helps a lot when they do that. They also just embrace the language, seeing it as both important and 'cool' to learn. Along with all the famous music that Scandinavia has produced (sung in English) the language has become almost a part of their culture. It's really cool, I think. Makes them much more open to the rest of the world unlike many other foreign countries.
