Fun Nostalgia Trip
I found this on Netflix after not having seen it for well over 15 years...
Very goofy and laughable at first, with the music and credits an obvious effort to emulate the Superman credits of that era. Skeletor was quite good and I had never realized it was Feank Langella underneath all that make-up. The story and plot are ridiculous but there is some nice, self-aware humor along the way, such as Tila' mug to the camera saying "Woman-at Arms..." Many moments such as this abound throughout the almost continuous action of the second half. The final fight between He-Man and Skelator is quite satisfying, as is the post-credit moment (one of the first franchise films to attempt this) of Skelator popping out of the water and proclaiming, "I'll be back!"
If you don't mind turning off your brain for a few hours this is an entertaining movie in spite of its numerous cringe-worthy moments. The special effects are fairly good and hold up even by today's standards. The spectacle nears epic levels, particularly when Skelator comes through the doorway with his mobile throne. All in all a harmless bit of entertainment. Even the fairy tale ending caught me a bit in the heartstrings...
I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.
