A little off topic, but where does everyone hope Skeletor ends up at in the last chapter of the series? Be it movie, cartoon or comic. After some time did he take her words to heart, and change for the better, or keep on plowing through?
Personally as a lifelong He-Man fan I don't like the idea of Skeletor becoming good. To me Skeletor will always be a ruthless tyrannical being who would gladly sacrifice his own flesh and blood if it would further his agenda in even the slightest of ways. He is an evil deceitful villain who would laugh and spit at the very concept of redemption.
As for how he ends up, I would like to see him locked away in a dungeon deep inside Castle Grayskull. How ironic and fitting would it be for Skeletor to spend the remainder of all his days locked away to rot in the very castle he tried so long and so hard to take for his own.
I wasn't really expecting Skeletor to redeme himself at all from her words. I was just wondering if Skeletor felt demeaned by her lecture. The Sorceress seemed to implied that behind it all, Skeletor was just a petty lowlife who was trying to gain power to make up for his inadequacies in life, and by his reaction if he knew there was a hint of truth to what she said. Like how people have been wondering if Skeletor was cowering when seeing He-Man being whipped by Blade.
At one point a sequel was planed, but the ideas they had were absolutely terrible. Trust me we dodged a bullet. Check out this link to read for yourself what an abomination the sequel would have been.........
I agree that Langella's Skeletor was brilliant, there was something almost magical about his portrayal of Skeletor. I also need to say that Dolph Lundgren brought a lot to this movie as well. I know his acting wasn't on par with Franks but this was Dolph's first staring role and I don't think he gets enough credit. In my opinion Dolph Lundgren was meant for the role of He Man, he just embodies the character perfectly and I can't imagine anyone else in that role. If you ask me this movie did both the hero and villain perfectly.
What are people expecting from Dolph? He's an action star. It's like asking Arnold Schwarzenegger to act well in his movies. Dolph Lundgren did fine as He-Man.
This is my interpretation of the scene. I do believe that Skeletor was stunned by the Sorceress's words but not for the same reason as you do. IMO Skeletor was stunned by the fact that the Sorceress still had the nerve to defy him. In Skeletors mind it was over, The hour of his triumph was at hand, the Sorceress would die,the sword of power was his and He Man would kneel before him or die with all of Eternia witnessing. There was no doubt in Skeletors mind, he was victorious and on his way to godhood, yet this woman, this powerless dying crone had the gall to defy him even when all hope was lost. That is why I think Skeletor seemed momentarily stunned. I'm not saying I'm right or you're wrong but that's my view of the scene.
EddRo Yeah this movie is a masterpiece to me as well and a favorite of mine. I'm an 80s kid so He-Man has been in my life as far back as I can remember and he continues to be my favorite fantasy character of all time and will remain so.
If I could change just one thing about the movie I would have liked to have seen more of Eternia.
EddRo Well it's cool that you can appreciate some of the classics even though they were before your time, some seem to turn their nose's up at those kinda things.
Did you by any chance check out the 2002 Cartoon Series. IMO it was very well done and better than the original in almost every way. It had better animation, continuity, stories, the characters were more fleshed out and it had an all around better atmosphere. The original had much better music though.
Don't get me wrong I like the old series for what it is and what it meant to me back then but it is really dated. When they finally started releasing DVDs of the original I was pretty excited as I hadn't seen them in years, but when I got them in the DVD player it was pretty hard to watch without cringing.
I saw the 2002 show and liked it, but as far as I can remember it did not have a conclusion, right? It was in fact the first He-Man I knew. And I liked it.
And many 80's shows I didn't see as a kid, I guess that it was not the time for re-runs of 80's shows during my childhood years in the 90's and I am not from America either. I still liked cartoons even as a teenager, so I am not unfamiliar with some 2000's stuff, but around 2007 I kind of gave up on new stuff.
Since I am not nostalgic for the 80's He-Man like I am for, say, most 90's cartoons, or classic Looney Tunes or Hanna-Barbera, Frank Langella-Skeletor is the best one in my book. 2002 was good too.
Yeah unfortunately they cancelled the 2002 show about half way through the second season so we didn't get a conclusion.
I 100% agree with you about Frank Langella's Skeletor being the best, he did an incredible job and there isn't a single thing that I would change about him.
Did you ever see The New Adventures of He man? There was some stuff that I liked but then there was some pretty bad stuff as well. They made Skeletor act just like the joker, It was really strange to say the least. Jokers great and all but he doesn't fit the he man universe
Joker is awesome but Skeletor shouldn't be like him, I agree. I didn't see that show though. Do you think I should? What else was interesting about it?
Well it's considered by many fans to be absolutely the worst thing to happen to the franchise. I'll list some of the complaints I've heard, I agree with some of them.
1. The only characters from the original show that return are He-Man, Skeletor and the Sorceress (but she is used very sparingly and only speaks to He-Man via telepathy)
King Randor and Queen Marlena appear briefly in the first episode, also Teela quest stars in one episode.
It should be noted that the show was done by another company and they could not use the Filmation designs so all characters are redesigned.
2. Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain only appear in the first episode, if I remember correctly. They are also redesigned.
3. No Erternia except for the first episode. This is basically He-Man in space where he defends a planet named Primus located in the Tri-solar system. (not as bad as some would say)
4. The Scientists, there are 4 of them and IMO are probably the worst offense this show has to offer. Imagine the annoyance level of Orko X 100 but there are 4 of them.
5. Skeletor as you know was based off the Joker and there's nothing funny about that.
Now I'll list what I think is good about it
1. I like He-mans and Skeletors redesigns they are quite different but I think they work. He-Man is voiced by Garry (Optimus Prime) Chalk.
2. I really like some of the new heroes and villains as well as their designs.
3. IMO the animation is much better, it almost has an older anime flavor to it and they use a lot less stock footage.
4. The story has better continuity. Where the original seems more like random episodes this one seems like a progressive story.
5. Spoiler..... One thing I really liked is in the first episode Prince Adam reveals that he is He Man to his parents before he leaves for his new adventure.
Now personally I think you should check it out. I had a lot of fun with it but I would probably be in the minority and I can understand why some wouldn't like it. That being said it is not as bad as some would make it seem. There are I believe 65 episodes and they are collected in 2 DVD volumes. Volume 1 can be picked up pretty cheaply on Ebay but volume 2 seems to be more scarce and tends to be more expensive. Here's a link with a picture of He-Man and Teela........
Some call this movie one of the worst ever, don't they? I think I should see this series for myself when I can, and thank you for sharing your opinion on it.
By the way, I really like "Beast Wars", including of course Garry Chalk. He was also the voice of Man-at-Arms in the 2002 series if I remember right.
Yep he sure was. Garry Chalk has a voice that is very distinguishable and never gets old. Beast Wars was a great show. I remember watching it before school every morning, It seems like ancient history now LOL. I do hope you get a chance to view The New Adventures Of He Man, it's very underrated IMO. Have a great Thanksgiving
