Skeletor - First live action Doctor Doom?

Me and my friends watched Masters of the Universe again yesterday, and as we were watching, it dawned on me how similar the portrayal of Skeletor was to perennial Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom. I'm sure it's just my imagination (and love of both characters) over-reaching, but man, to me the resemblance is so very striking. Knowing that Goddard was a fan of Kirby, and highly influenced by his Marvel and DC work, would it be too much of a stretch to think that perhaps it was intentional on his part?

As we were watching, we started ad-libbing Skeletor's lines, replacing "I" or "me" with "Doom" and "He-Man" with "Richards". The results were hilarious, and pretty straight on. Just something fun I wanted to share with fellow fans.

Cool, yeah, similar.

Frank Langella would have been a better choice for the later movies.

He was more like Dr. Doom than any of those who played the character, honestly.

Maybe the next FANTASTIC FOUR reboot should open like this film did. Just skip all the introductions and open with Dr. Doom taking over the Earth.

It is true that this film was conceived as Jack Kirby tribute b/c the director had no interest in He-Man. Skeletor was seen as a Dr. Doom/Darkseid composite. He-Man was actually seen as Thor.
