McG sucks and so do reboots in general. No, still in the US for the time being, mike.

reply

Yea I know what you mean, But I think this film will be more faithful to the Cartoon and comics

Oh right when do you think you will come to Scotland then maybe in the summer at some point, What a start to the year already with all these deaths of well known people

reply

As a lifelong He Man fan I really wish they would just leave this series alone, not everything needs to be remade. I have absolutely no faith in the folks that brought us Terminator Salvation.

reply

Jack-o-lantern_2623 the film with Dolph back in the 80's had elements of He-Man, But wasn't a true faithful adaptation of the cartoon/comics

reply

Yes I realize that. Just out of curiosity though, what parts of the film did you personally find unfaithful?

reply

Like He-man not coming as Prince Adam first and then changing in to HE-Man

No Castle of Grayskull, Skeletor not having a skull face or with a purple hood-and no Orko or mention of him

etc etc

In regards to there not being a Prince Adam in this film I posted this in another thread....

This is actually more true to the source material than the cartoon was. It might surprise you to know that originally there was no Prince Adam. The original toy line released in 1981 came with Mini Comics that told the story of He Man's origins, in this story He Man was a warrior from a jungle tribe.
Later for future comics/Filmation cartoon He Man's origins were revised and Prince Adam was created.
That being said, I much prefer the Prince Adam/He Man concept.

No Castle of Grayskull, Skeletor not having a skull face or with a purple hood-and no Orko or mention of him

Castle Grayskull was in the film. Yes it was just a background but it was shown nonetheless. I do admit however it was done poorly and I wish they could have done better.

They went through a lot of different Skeletor masks, but settled on the one they did because it allowed the actor (Frank Langella) to convey an array of emotions that a rigid skull wouldn't have. What works for cartoons and comics doesn't always work for film. Today they might be able to work around this with the use of CGI, but that was not an option back in 1987.

A purple hood works great for cartoons and comics, but not so much in a film. I feel they made the right decision in going with a black costume for Skeletor, it's more menacing and realistic, but that's just my opinion.

Orko could not be done with the budget they had to work with. The character Gwildor was created as a replacement of sorts. Personally I favor Gwildor over Orko as he isn't nearly as annoying.

I get what your saying but at the same time the special effects in the 80's film is still alright, Battle Cat could of been done back then but was just due to budget he was going to be part Animatronics and part CGI but the film company[Canon films] wouldn't front up the money for it as they had agreed a certain amount

Hopefully McG will make a worthy adaptation from this well known brand

reply

[deleted]

Not just for the time but I also mean if you watch the film now it is still alright, Wouldn't look at the special effects now and think wow that is awful effects know what I mean- Special Effects have held up well

Yea your right that is why a'lot of the film was set on earth due to budget from Canon

It didn't flop that badly still made money, But when it came out on video it made back it's money and then some so tech wasn't a flop

When the film flopped, Cannon than went out of business. Shame, I loved their action films.

Not true as you still had films after: Masters of the Universe that were hits at cinema like Blood Sport + Cyborg, Kickboxer, ALL Van Damme films were a success in the 80's and then in the 90's as well- They mad direct to videos in the 90's then went bankrupt so it wasn't after Masters of the Universe

reply

[deleted]

They were indeed and yea they are classics and Cyborg another 80's Van Damme fim as you know,

Well whoever put that was wrong, I mean other 80's special effects that still are good today like: Back to the future trilogy, Flight of the navigator, Predator, The Explorers,

Robocop, Aliens, The Abyss, The Last Starfighter, Life Force, The Fly, Blade Runner, Ghostbusters 1+2, Starman, Indiana Jones trilogy, etc etc Where you from mate?

I thought all the seasons of Charlie's Angels was good TV, I agree about T Salvation I think he did well there and gave nods to the fans

And you say: and quite frankly the HE-MAN cartoon wasn't very good anyway- What?????

The animation was good, the music, The whole feel of it was good

But then you say you would like to see things from Cartoon confused

reply

[deleted]

Ah ok maybe you should watch the other seasons then if that is the case

Well the way you said it wasn't very good but then wanted things from it in the film, So come on it did sound contradict itself lol

Cringe worthy moments like what, I personally didn't find Orko annoying I thought he was a goofy character anyway

I understand if you wanted He-man just being that character and not his other character of Prince Adam

Wasn't a split personality thing he didn't have a personality disorder, He-Man did exist it wasn't all in his mind lol

I was just wondering out of curiosity, are you aware that originally there was no Prince Adam concept? I only ask because it seems as though many don't know this.

Personally I like the Prince Adam/He-Man alter ego element, but I understand how it can be too Superman like for some people.

[deleted]

Yes the cartoon was based on the toys, but did not come out until a year or so after the first wave of figures.
The fist wave of figures all came with Mini comics which told the story of He Man origins. In those comics he was a warrior from a jungle tribe. The text from the first page of said comic is.....

A mighty figure stood at the edge of the jungle that had, until this day, always been his home. He-Man, the tribes greatest warrior, waved his farewell. He might have preferred to stay, but he had a noble mission to accomplish.

"Evil forces exist on our planet Eternia," He-Man told his people. "They seek to control the legendary Castle Grayskull, a place of wonders, If we are to know a lasting peace, I must go out and battle those forces. Farewell".

Later for future comics and the Filmation Cartoon He-Man's origins were revised, and the Prince Adam/He-Man alter ego concept (that most fans remember him for) was created.

Did you watch the 2002 remake cartoon? IMO it beats the original in every category except music.

reply

Well I really like the Cartoon and the film so I'm good either way of what they bring to this new film

you say:Nothing there that indicates the cartoon was completely irredeemable- Skeletor and his gang are still creepy to this day and the machines they use to try and stop He-Man etc

So what 80's cartoons do you like, give me your top 20 :-]

Good list so far, What you mean and the first SIMPSONS episode broadcasted in 1989, but maybe that's not enough to count- Meaning you can't comment as you just seen 1 episode of the 80's so you would have to see more from 89- Also the very first one was back in 87 they were shorts:The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987.

How about other classic 80's cartoons like: Inspector Gadget, The Real Ghostbusters, Visionaries, ThunderCats, BraveStarr, SuperTed, Rambo, Defenders Of The Earth, The Centurions, Bananaman,

Ulysses 31, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, M.A.S.K, Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Jem, Denver The Last Dinosaur, Spiderman And His Amazing Friends, Dungeons And Dragons, DuckTales, etc etc

reply

[deleted]

Ahhhh yess C.O.PS is a classic cartoon as well, And yeah get The Real Ghostbusters for sure

reply

Well, his first Charlie's Angels movie shows that the man can do over the top action, and his Terminator movie shows that he can handle sci-fi.

In the end, if he treats He-Man as it should be treated, he'll do all right. Just don't take the intellectual property and strip it of everything save the name (ala the Jem and the Holograms movie). More Transformers, less G.I. Joe.

At it's heart, He-Man is a winner. It's Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars. How can anyone mess that up? 😉

reply

Yea exactly Match_Maker they got to make it have some funny moments like the cartoon but also dark ones as well so I think that will be a good combo
