Detective stays behind....

Did anyone else find it odd that the bald detective stayed in Eternia?

Throughout the movie he had a hard on for Kevin (despite no evidence of wrong doing), was convinced He Man and company were invading Earth and tried to stop them, tried to stop everyone going back to Greyskull, and generally got in the way...

Then despite having no connection to Eternia (or the heroes) he stays?

I can imagine retiring on a cop's pension in the 80's wouldn't be glamorous but still....

And was he some sort of king? It looked like he was sitting in a throne (with the girl on his arm). How did that happen?

Lubic got his happy ending as Julie and Kevin and the Eternians did.

him sitting up there probably had to do with a reward for having helped save the universe. He didn't have a huge backstory or development but we can assume he had little to no family , was about to retire etc

Lubic had nothing much to go back to Earth to, and did you see that blonde Eternian he had his arm wrapped around?  I don't blame him for staying.

Yes, I found it odd and it's not one of my favorite parts of the film. I know a lot of fans seem to enjoy his character (to each their own) but frankly I find Detective Lubic to be little more than a pompous jerk and a bit of an ass-hat who contributed very little to our protagonist's victory. He was hardly worthy of a throne or that sweet ass honey by his side (IMO.)
That being said, I do like James Tolkan as an actor. I believe he was directed to make Lubic unlikable and IMO he did just that.

On a side note I believe Lubic's replacement back on earth was none other than the famed Detective Sipowicz ......at least I like to think so. 

This is all true. He was more of a nuisance than a help, but I still rather liked the guy and was happy he ended up hitting the jackpot, whether he truly deserved it or not. It's not as if he was a bad guy.

Well, I didn't expect it, but it was funny. And Lubic was supposed to provide more comic relief.

I think we should have seen more scenes of Lubic sorting out slackers though. 

reply

I bet he taught the Eternians the s-word 

reply

"Police! Nobody move!" (and he only called backup under heavy fire)

"What is this, a circus act?"

"I'm going to put you away for 850 years!"

"Nobody takes pot shots at Lubic!"

I think this makes up for the lack of him saying "slackers".

I forgot about this part. I absolutely love that line, easily the funniest thing he says IMO. The look he gets from Gwildor is hilarious, then Lubic's like "what are you looking at shorty" . I forgot his one liners, and stand corrected, I guess he wasn't all that bad.

reply

I love that line also, and the character.

Old Lubic probably had his fun in Eternia, knocked up a few women and the eternians probably got tired of him and wiped hid memory and magically sent him back in time to hill valley where he ended up working at the local high school

reply

yes that's what happened

Well, it's a given that whenever a man from America relocates to some other place, even if it is another planet, he always gets the attractive single girl that happens to be available there.
