Burt Reynolds is the most underrated actor of all time.

Burt Reynolds, even in weak stuff like Malone, was always a great actor, and after his hot streak ended in the mid 80s, he became Hollywood's most undervalued asset. Too many dumb movies in the early 80s killed his career, and its a shame, because the guy has serious chops and effortless presence on screen. It's a shame he didn't capitalize more on Boogie Nights in 1997. I thought for sure we'd see more high-profile things from him, but he pretty much went right back to the made for TV junk he'd been doing for the past decade (maybe he was obligated to), with the occasional big supporting role (Dukes of Hazzard, Longest Yard remake).

It's unfortunate his career will wind up being mostly forgettable. It really could have been much more.

Hello friend, that is an excellent post, and perfectly said. It bears repeating, hence my reposting of it.

Yes Burt is the greatest ever, hands down. Way underrated.

I think he got a bit lazy making too many films with Hal Needham in the early 80s. If he made more films like Sharkys Machine and less trash like Cannonball Run 2 and Stroker Ace his career would have continued to strive like Clint Eastwoods.

I agree, he has a lot of meh movies but also a bunch of really good ones.

The man can act, and has a great presence.

A lot of dumb movies in the late 70s didn’t help either.

HE WAS GREAT...BUT HE NEVER WORKED TO GET BETTER...UNLIKE SOMEONE LIKE SALLY FIELD WHO SPENT HER ENTIRE CAREER STRETCHING HERSELF AND IMPROVING HER CRAFT...REYNOLDS GOT TO WHERE HE GOT ON PURE RAW TALENT AND CHARM...ONCE HE GOT THERE HE KICKED BACK WITH HIS PALS AND PLAYED IT REAL EASY...FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH HE REGRETTED NOT BEING THE DEDICATED ACTOR HE LATER WANTED TO BE KNOWN AS...OR AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT HE SAYID IN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
