Just seen this movie last night. Good movie and I like the cinematography .. plus the cavalry attack scenes at the end of the movie.
Any other middle east WW I movies beside this, Lawrence of Arabia and Galipoli?
Aussie mini-series called "Anzacs" features one episode on Gallipoli although the rest is set on the Western front.

shareI would highly recommend the film 'All the Kings men', which is the story of King George V's lost Sandringham company. On August 12 1915 this company of soldiers marched into enemy territory against the turks at Gallipoli, and were never heard of again. Their disappearence became one of the great mysterious legends of WW1. The film stars the great David Jason and is available on an adequate DVD from WGBH Boston Video (WG33659)
The film follows the ficticous investigation of the incident and this story telling technique means the actual battle scenes are intercut within this format, which may not appeal to all action fans, but the recreation of the battle is as savage and brutal as anything you will ever see on film.
Overall, 120 minutes of BBC film brilliance.
Is that the same DVD available from Amazon.com? Cause that one was awful. I've never seen a transfer that bad in my life. The VHS I originally saw it on was better quality than that. The film was good but it needs a much better release.
shareYes. That is the one from amazon. As i mentioned, it is an adequate (but only barely) DVD transfer. And I agree, a film of this quality certainly deserves a better presentation, but the poor DVD doesn't diminish the brilliance of the film itself.

I think there was an episode of Young Indiana Jones where he met Lawrence but I haven't seen it so I can't vouch for it.
Most of the other movies listed in this thread are set in Gallipolli (Turkey), South Africa or China.
As a long shot, there is a movie called Ararat which is about a movie being made of the Armenian genocide during WW1.
Hopefully, as the centennary of WW1 nears, we will see more movies.
There is an interesting film called "All the King's Men," and it is about a unit made up of the servants of King George V. They head off to Galipoli as well.

Khartoum - Charlton Heston, Laurence Olivier (1966) / British & Sudanese against a Muslim fanatic called Mahdi in Sudan circa 1883.
The Sand Pebbles - Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough, Ruchard Crenna and Candice Bergen (1966) / USS warship caught in middle of China's boxer rebellion circa 1901.
All three have some great old world battle scenes especially Khartoum and Sand Pebbls, great storylines and great acting. All three are kind of under the radar of most people which is a shame.
The Sand Pebbles is set in the 1920s, not the Boxer Rebellion.
