How did Rob Downey Jr become a drug addict after this?

His character made me stay away from hard drugs. It had a strange positive impact on me since I was only around 12 when it came out. I guess RDJ did not mind sucking cvck.

I was compelled to stay, compelled to disobey.

Have you ever seen him in an interview? He is an idiot.

reply

He's not an idiot, he's very intelligent, well-educated and a great actor.

He has the disease of addiction- because he would relapse and use doesn't erase all his great work and things he did when he was sober. He's also clean from drugs and has been for a long time. He looks great and is in great shape.

As for anything he did illegal in the past- he served his time in jail for. He paid his debt to society.

He's done a lot of great work and been recognized for it by the Academy.

So dropping out of high school and never attending any higher schools is well-educated??? In your book, yeah.

From interviews printed and video he sounds like a dumb ass. Great actor???? He definitely is a good actor, I can't think of a film I didn't like him in... but great? He is probably a better drug addict than an actor.

reply

Nahh man, he's actually a highly thoughtful and accomplished actor - it's pretty much common knowledge, didn't you hear?

reply

Maybe he's a great actor and a drug user. What's wrong with that? I know you're not saying that directly, but you let it stand as a bad thing. Addiction sucks but nearly all of us use caffeine and other drugs. How many alcoholic actors are there who get a free pass? Think Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Michael J. Fox, Humphrey Bogart.

This post is well over a year old but it's still offensive. Applied knowledge is just as substantial as a formal education, if not moreso. Nice crass generalization you jerry had there. *rolls eyes*

How is that offensive? I think you are confusing the terms street smart with well educated. Most people when they hear the term well educated equate it to someone who has at the very least a Bachelor's degree if not a graduate degree. Although, often times, being street smart can be as or even more valuable than a formal education I'll give you that.

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? RDJ is VERY smart, well spoken, educated and TALENTED! He isn't just an actor he is also an accomplished pianist... If anything he comes off a bit arrogant in interviews which annoys me but certainly not moronic in ANY way...

reply

I guess he started using drugs after he made the movie.
But He did fall into a hardcore life of drugs after this, or maybe even before he did this movie. Read a bio on him. He was in deep!

reply

some think that it was this movie that caused him to slide into his drug problems.

It was Hollywood in the 80s I bet the entire cast was coked out of their heads every day

reply

RDJ actually contributes his drug addiction to his childhood. His dad introduced him to marijuana when he was 6 or 8 or something like that. He was struggling with an addiction prior to this movie that just got way out of hand and more publicized in the '90s. Well, not "out of hand" but you know what I mean.

reply

Is it safe to say at least on one take during filming that actual coke was snorted up? I def. think so. Or did they do it between takes?

There were only a few times actual lines were shown, it was mostly spoon bottle or crack. It's possible, probable that it was real at that time but for sure in the trailers between scenes. Pretty well known they all did then.

I know this is 5 years late, but RDJ was doing drugs before this movie, during this movie, and after this movie. I think he finally kicked his habit around the time he did the Sherlock Holmes movie or sometime before. But he started doing drugs at the age of 9. In fact, the scene where Julian is begging his dad for a second chance didn't require any makeup on RDJ. He just naturally looked that busted b/c he had been out partying all night before that shoot.

reply

I believe he even blamed LESS THAN ZERO for relapsing. Which was childish because it's not like they forced him to play in this.
I don't mean to impose, but I am the Ocean.

reply

He was doing research for his role as Julian and became addicted for real. Yep, blame Less Than Zero for putting Downey's mouth on the barrel of the gun!

reply

Rdj has said in multiple interviews that he barely remembers filming less than zero because he has high the entire time so he already had a drug problem prior to filming this.

that's the easy part. being young and successful (and a little bit arrogant) in Hollywood, he was definitely exposed to all the good stuff (i mean, the bad stuff). And you just don't think you will be addicted. You can handle it. You can control it.

.....that's how it begins.
