I'd also like to know as well. I assume that something like that had to have happened. We're talking about a kid and his family trying to scratch out a living in the late 50's. They had a harder time of it being poor and mexican!
Ritchie had to have started in bars! He may have been young but that wasn't a big issue at that time..... I still remember jam sessions in bars in the mid 60's! Parents often brought thier teenaged kids to sing or play guitars or drums with house bands. My 15/16 year old sisters use to sing with the bands every Saturday night.......
It was never a big deal as long as the folks were with them.
I checked out all of the special features on the dvd and heard some fun stuff about Bob. I also listened to the comentary but they never said anything about that scene being true.....
IMO it rings true.
