I was just wondering why did the film use the music of Los Lobos and not Ritchie's original recordings? I've seen pictures of Bob Keane at the movie premiere, so he must have been supportive of the film in some way. It couldn't have been him who wouldn't have released the music, could it? I would think the family would have wanted Ritchie's voice singing. Just a thought.

Probably because the recordings of Valens wouldn't good in the movie do to their age. The recordings would have been around 30 years old at that point and I'm sure they would sound scratchy.

Probably because in reality, there never were any stereo recordings made of Ritchie Valens. Only a rough cut of Donna. All recordings of Ritchie's were mono recordings, which are of a lesser quality.
