Eddie Cochran wrote a song called "Three Stars". It´s about a plane crash in which 3 Rock ´n Roll Stars were killed: Valens, Holly, Big Bopper. So who died first: Valens or Cochran?:-)

reply

Ritchie, Buddy and the Bopper died on Feb 3, 1959 in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa. Eddie Cochran died over a year later I believe in April, 1960 in England in a car crash. The British loved Holly, Valens, and Cochran. They helped usher in the British Invasion.

Hope that helps.

I too loved Eddie Cochran. He died here in England in 1960. If you remember he wrote and sang the tribute "Three Stars"

Perhaps there should be an Eddie Cochran biopic - but I ain't holdin' my breath.

eddie cochran died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on sunday april 17th at 4:10 pm in the afternoon.
the accident accured sometime between 11:15 pm late saturday evening and early sunday morning about 12:oo am,around 12:15 am sunday the ambulences arrived and took eddie, gene vincent and eddie's fiance songwriter sharon sheeley to the hospital st. martins in nearby bath.
gene vincent had suffered a few abrasions and a broken collar bone, miss sheeley suffered leg and head injuries as well as serious damage to her neck, back and pelvis, yet eddie had hit his head at such an angle on the roof of the taxi as to suffer brain heamorrhaging, which caused fluid and bruising on the brain.
there was also bruising of his larynx, thyroid and both lungs had filled with fluid.......at the hospital he was giving artificial resperation, but his condition deteriorated rapidly over the next sevral hours and despite the best efforts of dr. donald pilton and the st. martins medical team, eddie cochran died on sunday april 17th at 4:10 pm in the afternoon.
it was said by both gene vincent as well as there road manager pat thompkins, that on impact eddie had thrown himself in front of sharon as if to protect her during the crash, but as he was leaned forward in the backseat at the point of impact, the force caused eddie to lurch head first into the roof of the taxi next to the rear door, causing it to burst open sending eddie sprawling from the cab onto the gravel road.
the driver george martin and pat thomkins walked away from the wreckage with seamingly only dazed injuries.
eddie was only 21 years old,he would'nt be 22 until the following october 3rd,essentially just a kid,yet he left behind a vast selection of recorded material as well as a solid reputation as a prolific songwriter, amazing vocalist and a astounding musician........his guitar playing on his gretsch 6120 chet atkins hollow body special influenced a number of future rockers such as john lennon, pete townsand, john fogerty, jimi hendrix and brian setzer,to name but a few.
eddie cochran will always be a god among mortal men, both musically as well as spiitually, like james dean who he idolized after a fashion,he was a true rebel.

Yeah, they could have named the movie, "La Bamba With A Huge Tribute to Eddie Cochran Who Could Really Play."

I like some of Eddie Cochran's songs. I love Summertime Blues. Three Steps to Heaven is a good one too. Brian Setzer was a great choice to play him and I liked how he performed Summertime Blues. I never knew Cochran died so young. He would be dead almost a year after Ritchie, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper. He died at 21 in a car crash. I never knew.

reply

Perhaps. But the movie is about Ritchie Valens. When they make The Eddie Cochran Story, perhaps Ritchie Valens' part will be small. But Eddie Cochran writing his song, "Three Stars" would be a powerful scene sequence.

Were Ritchie Valens and Eddie Cochran close friends?

reply

From what I've read, he was good friends with both Valens and Holly.

reply

I think you are right. Eddie Cochran recorded a song "Three Stars" about Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. It was written and originally recorded by Tommy Dee.

Eddie, Ritchie and Duane Eddy used to go out for Mexican food when they toured NYC. I remember reading that in a book about Eddie called Don't Forget me.

That is so cool. I love Mexican food and live in the New York area. I wonder how Ritchie Valens liked the Mexican food served in New York. I heard the "Mexican" food in New York would be better described as Tex-Mex. Years ago there were not many Mexicans in New York, but there were large Latin communities. Most of the Latin people in the New York area were Puerto Rican, Dominican and/or Cuban. Puerto Rican food is amazing. It has a lot of flavor, but isn't too hot.

I heard Eddie, Duane, and Ritchie searched in vain for a really great place but couldn't find one. I'd love to know how many of the places are still around (no names were listed though). Those Alan Freed shows would be my ultimate time travel concerts :)

If they were staying in a hotel they should have asked the employees to recommend restaurants. That is how many travelers find places to eat.
