Esai Morales

I became friends with Esai on Facebook and I had a chance to talk to him a couple of times. I complimented him on his performance and I told him how much I loved the movie. He's a nice guy. I think it's a disgrace that this movie didn't get any recognition when it came out. The Oscars snubbed this movie. The movie wasn't nominated, the actors weren't nominated, Luis Valdez wasn't nominated, and the great score wasn't even nominated.

I saw this movie in 1987, I laughed, and I cried.
Well, I teared up at the end.
Great movie, and Esai should've got a nomination for this movie.
I know it's about Ritchie, but I always liked the scenes where "Bob" was in there.
That made the movie for me.
I know he was his "half Brother" but at the end, it made ALL the difference.
Esai, I RATE your performance 10/10.

On a $6.5mill budget, it grossed 55mill in the US alone, then there would have been the international grosses to add to this. The Academy can be snobs at times and nominated highbrow films, that they though were more remarkable and prestigious. La Bamba was a well shot, well directed and very well acted—especially by Morales—and it had the kind of emotional impact that makes a film memorable. I don't think many would care about Hope and Glory, which was nominated for picture and even the best picture winner The Last Emperor, is a bit of a cold and un-moving affair, in spite of it's technical excellence. La Bamba definitely deserved more of a look in.
