Feb 3, 1959, The Day the Music Died

The anniversary just passed and I watched both La Bamba and The Buddy Holly Story. I thought both movies were great. I loved Gary Busey as Buddy Holly and I loved how the movie included all those great songs of his. It felt like they didn't leave any out. It was through that movie that I discovered Buddy's great romantic slow song True Love Ways.

I loved La Bamba for so many reasons. The casting was great, the music was awesome, the directing was great, and it was overall a well made film. Although I love both movies, I have to lean towards La Bamba for its shear pathos. The movie went into so much of Ritchie's personal life and stuff with his family. The movie really made me feel for these people, including Ritchie. They also showed a lot more of Buddy, Ritchie, and The Big Bopper together in the end, which I really liked. They even showed that coin toss and the three getting on the plane in the end. Then you see the plane take off and you know what's coming, but the ending is still so heartbreaking and sad. The ending made a lot of people cry and its hard not to. In the end you hear them announcing the plane crash over the radio, naming all three legends. Then you see everyone reacting to Ritchie's death. They did a great job with the ending because it really hits home. In the end, I like La Bamba way more.

I certainly agree with most of your comments. The ending of both movies had me in tears as well. I think there was more music presented in the "Buddy Holly Story"; however, they did not show Ritchie singing. Such a shame.

I was very, very sad when I heard news of the plane crash. The only good part was that Dion was not on that plane. I felt true sadness when Elvis Presley died. I was sobbing.
