Was it me? or Donna was not that pretty..

I don't want to go as far to say this actress was ugly.. but if you're making a major Hollywood movie.. Find a hotter looking chick.

What was Kristy Swanson doing in 87? I know she looked good in Flowers in the Attic and she was High School looking at-least.

I think Donna is pretty.

I disagree. Donna was very pretty. And she was a decent actress, too.

When I first saw the movie, I didn't care how she looked. Then when I saw a picture of what the real Donna Ludwig looked like, that's when it hit me. The real Donna was a beautiful girl and they got one ugly girl to play her!

reply

Thank you Barrog... But still it didn't have to matter what the real Donna looked like.. the girl who played her was not hot period.. You're making a Hollywood movie.. you must Embellish.. Ritchie Valens in real life was Butt Ugly.. Lou Diamond is way better looking.. so why not for Donna?

I'd say she was kinda cute, but not beautiful. But isn't that far more realistic? Hollywood usually makes the love interest downright beautiful, which seems rather false.

reply

I couldn't agree with you more, Kag2. They wanted an average looking high school girl to fit the part as Ritchie's 'real' girlfriend. I thought she was good as an actress and looked more realistic. I'm glad the 80's weren't too picky with women's looks compared to today.

My brother in law and I always clown how dorky Donna looked in the movie. I'm not expecting some super hot blonde to play Donna, but comon. You could of casted someone a "bit" better looking.

reply

Richie Valens was definitely not butt ugly-far from it. He was adorable. He just seemed like a big teddy bear-type guy.

So then why not get chubby Paul Rodriguez to play him? Why slim and trim Lou Diamond ??

If anything, the film embellished the relationship between Donna and Ritchie. I don't think they were as serious as portrayed. One aspect that was accurate was that Donna's father was racist toward Ritchie. I saw a VH1 special a few years ago, and the real Donna stated that her father did not let her attend the party Ritchie's family had before he went on the tour during which he was killed. She said it was a long time before she forgave her father for denying her the chance to say goodbye.

"she wasn't even crying . . . ."

When Donna Ludwig was interviewed on TV, the interviewer asked her how she had reacted when she heard the news that Ritchie was killed in the plane wreck.

She said that she acted pretty much as she was portrayed in the movie. She hinted that she just went kind of numb and couldn't really respond to what was going on.

reply

I thought the real Donna is average-looking. Movie Donna was much cuter.

reply

Donna was average looking in the movie. But lets not forget that it was set in the 1950's, and girls back then probably weren't even allowed to wear makeup to school. Plus Donna was probably only 16 back then which means she was practically still a child. If this movie was set in today's date, Donna would have had more makeup and a different hair style hence making her more attractive. In my opinion Donna was plain, but not unattractive. Have any of you seen what Nicole Kidman looked like at 16? She definately wasn't the beauty she is today.

reply

You guys are allowed to wear makeup on school?

reply

That's the first thing I thought, and I AM a woman. Would someone really have "love at first sight" for someone as average as she was? Hm...

Exactly!!! You're already embellishing what the main character looked like for Hollywood's sake.. why not get a mega hott looking Donna. Get a Heather Locklear look-a-like..

I'm a guy and I'm the same age as the actress that played Donna. I think she was cast perfectly for this. She has a girl-next-door beauty, that caught many young boys' eyes. Had you casted a super-hottie, that would have totally distracted from the movie - the movie wasn't exlusively about their relationship. The movie was a snapshot of the last two years of Ritchie's life.

Ritchie, as portrayed in the film at least, was a sensitive, mature-beyond-his-years young man. Had his older brother had a real looker, it would have made sense, since he was the wild, free-wheeling brother, and hotties always go for the bad boys, right?

This is a fantastic film all the way around, including the casting, imo.

She was absolutely gorgeous.

wow...you must not get out much...Both the actress and real life Donna were WAY average looking (which is not necessarily bad)...It's personality that makes them "pretty/sweet"..NOT gorgeous..Kinda crazy out of all the girls Ritchie could have picked, he took an average looking girl to serenade/dedicate an entire song to...Well, those were the 50's! ;P

reply

Who are you to tell me I can't think someone is gorgeous? Some people can find someone ugly while others can find them to be very attractive, it's all opinion.

I agree! Ms von Zerneck is very pretty.:-)

I thought the actress was attractive. She didn't have to be a knockout since the character was about 16 or 17 years old in the film.

Regarding the claim that the real Ritchie was butt ugly, or as most often heard these days, fugly: In some photos I've seen of him he did look rather homely, but in others he looked halfway decent. More than likely would not have been classified as a teen idol had he lived longer.

reply

In some photos he looked fat and in others had a less than clear complexion. If he had lived and was to become a teen idol, he would have been put on a diet, lifted weights and seen a dermatologist for a complete makeover.

reply

Danielle wasn't extremely attractive but she was pretty and fit the role of 50's teen girl. I agree with others on Ritchie looked in real life. He was kind of good looking in a lot of pictures. I think if he had lived he would probably been told at one point to lose weight.

OP is a knuckle-head...

Richie was a rock star tho. He may not have been that good-looking but he could have easily pulled tens after his star had risen.

At least Donna wasn't a twelve year old bone bag.
