Anyone agree?

No doubt this is the best Jaws film, but are the Jaws films the only movie franchise, where each sequel was better than the previous one?

reply

Not at all. Michael Caine, who was in it, admits that this film was god awful.

reply

Well I heard according to Lorraine Gary, she said it was great

reply

You're misinformed. Lorraine Gary hated it as well.

reply

What does he know? Jaws: The Revenge is easily one of the five best films ever made, primarily because its genius is so subtle. Even Akira Kurosawa agreed, naming it as "the one film he wished he'd made" in an interview with Cahiers du Cinéma.

reply

Jaws the Revenge is a film that has aged incredibly well. I doubt the audiences when it was released were prepared for it. The story was far more complex than the original, the characters multi-dimensional and let's not overlook the incredibly impressive mechanical shark. At no time did I think I was looking at anything other than a real shark. Amazing work. And the cinematography was breathtaking. I truly believe most critics of this film never really watched it.

reply

Agreed. Love the shark roar at the end too. Made it so much more terrifying

reply

I still get chills remembering that scene. It sounded *exactly* like a real shark's roar.

reply

Don't forget, this shark also had extremely high intelligence. It followed the Brody family all the way down to the Bahamas

reply

Yes the realism it portrayed of these incredibly intelligent and thoughtful creatures was far before its time. People don't realize just how savvy these magnificent beasts are.

reply

You are correct. I saw it theatrically in the summer of '87. We were laughing at it in those days but now realize it was just ahead of its time. "Jaws: The Revrnge" truly is an overlooked masterpiece of its era with masterful direction from Joseph Sargent that rivals anything Spielberg could have done.
