Wasn't it 'personal' in the previous 2 sequels, as well?

In Jaws 2, the shark first appears hanging out around the sunken Orca ship, then makes its way to Amity where the Brody's live.

Then, in Jaws 3, a mother and baby shark just happen to terrorize the theme park where the Brody son happens to work, and actually arrives when the younger brother Brody also happens to be visiting.

Seems like its ALWAYS been personal, wouldn't you say?

Personal from the shark's POV, but also personal from Ellen Brody's POV - Ellen decides to take out the shark that's been terrorizing her family - hence the "revenge" can be seen as Ellen's personal response to the shark...

oh... thats true... is that what they meant?

The entire plot of this movie is a reversal of something that was brought up in Jaws 2.

In Jaws 2 Brody asked a marine biologist if the shark they were after could be coming after him as revenge for the shark he had killed in the first movie. Her answer was "Sharks don't take thing's personally, Mr. Brody."

This movie was centered around the offspring of the original shark coming to take revenge by going after Brody's family. Plus the tagline for the movie was "This Time ... It's Personal".

I don't know what they have to say. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever it is, I'm against it.

all 3 sequels had elements of it;

as you said the second film had Brody theorize that the shark somehow knew the first shark was destroyed and fans even theorize the two were mates.

The third film is clearly about the mother shark avenging the baby.
