missed opportunity for A Christmas Story moment

The wife in this is Melinda Dillon who is the wife in A Christmas Story. In the beginning when they pull the rifle out of the back it would have been great if she said something about not shooting your eye out. It would have been a nice little wink to movie fans.

They did when John Lithgow says he wanted paints for Christmas but his dad got him a BB gun.

There's a part in the movie where Ernie swears and immediately apologizes.

The also could have referenced Christmas Story by having the mother wash Ernie's mouth with soap.
