best generic/crappy 'nam film out there

now ,that's not saying much, but it's saying something. of all the terrible or low budget or generic gung-ho vietnam films out there, this one is remembered and most revered, if you could call it that.

Also....why in every 'nam movie do you have jaded, experienced Seargents and inexperienced, stupid, or way too young to know enough Lieutenants?

Is that really how it always was or did the movie simply latch on to this notion?

That's how war is. NCOs always have more experience than your average lieutenant. In a perfect world, the lieutenant lets the NCO teach him for a while, which is the right thing to do. However, we don't live in a perfect world, and there are many butter bars fresh out of OCS who think they know everything and so they don't listen to suggestions from their NCOs, and in many cases hold them in contempt. Read some books on infantry units in Vietnam from guys who were there, and you'll see it.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had actually meant ROTC, but had a brain misfire.

Platoon Leader? I take it that's a crappy Nam movie? I never heard of that one...and I'm sure there's a reason lol.
