What's happening in the scene when...

What is going on in the scene where the men are all in the whore house and a fight breaks out. I don't understand why they were fighting b/c no matter how many times I re-watch that scene, I can't make out the dialogue, other than one guy yelling out "That's bull sh!t." The black guy with glasses decks the white guy who yells the profanity. Please, enlighten me. Thank's.

Alright, this is my first time watching the movie, and I'm fairly impressed with it. Regarding te fight: in the bar. When a white guy walks out with a Vietnamese whore, Doc (I think that's the name of the black guy with glasses), says something like "Whatch you do in Vietnam, boy?". Then he replies something indistinct, perhaps something about death (I heard the word 'death' and he points to his own head). Then 'Doc' says "You know, we brothers are dead because we are not educated." To which the white guy starts making baby-cry fae, but the new guy (FNG), exclaims "That's bullsh!t (obviously referring to Doc's "oppressed black man" line). To which Doc says "Say what FNG?", "Freaking new guy..". Then he punches him out. White guy (FNG), says my name is not FNG/Alphabet, my name is Vincent Langolio. So basically the fight was about the stigma placed on newbies, the consigned position of pariahs of all newcomers for whatever reason, as well as racial conflict between blacks and whites (and Doc was very heavy on the "black brothers be oppressed by the white men, fighting for United States of White America", etc., etc.
hope that helps, :)

Thanks a bunch. I was under the impression Doc said," What did you say f*ing G" as in *beep* gangster which made me laugh. Now it makes more sense lol. Thanks again.

This is the conversation, more or less.

Doc: What you doing in Vietnam, boy?
Bienstock <pointing at his head>: I volunteered.
Doc: You know, the brothers are here because we're black and uneducated.
Languilli (Alphabet): That's bullsh**.
Doc <to Languilli>: Say what, FNG?

Doc then slugs Languilli.

FNG is spoken like it reads "effengee" and means *beep* New Guy" or a troop that hasn't had his butt in the sh** long enough to know anything about anything.

Doc slugs Languilli because, as an FNG, Languilli has no right to tell Doc what anything is. Doc has had his butt in the grass, Languilli is still green.

I agree with the way that played out, but I got the feeling he slugged him just as much because he was angry, drunk and otherwise on the edge. Languilli just pushed the final button.

He may have been more than drunk. There are a number of subtle things in this movie (for instance, you probably would NOT want to drink the coke that little girl had when she was running alongside the Deuce and a Half), and I wonder if Doc hadn't been hitting his own morphine, or grazing on the Cambodian Red.
