Aspect Ratio

On IMDB, the Aspect Ratio is listed at 1.85:1.

I also own the DVD which is also 1.85:1, however, I've also thought that this movie was filmed with the intention of releasing it in 2.25:1.

For instance, the films title runs of the edge of the screen on both left and right when shown and there are many shots that are not framed correctly, but would be, if the film was in 2.25:1. Even if the camera operator was a real dil that couldn't frame a shot to save his life, and the DP didn't notice on the dailies, for the people that do the titles to make such as error as well would be highly improbable.

I suspect the film was released in only 35mm prints to save money as ditribution of 70mm prints is several orders of magnitude more expensive, and, as good as this movie is, it was never a blockbuster at the theater. Manly because the croping is static, unlike when it is done with pan and scan when transfering to video where the operator tries to keep the focus of the shot centered in the frame.

It would be nice however, if a 2.25:1 print could be found for a release on DVD. I for one would like to see the other third of the movie that gets cut off when they crop the aspect ratio.
