This is driving me crazy. I clearly remember a scene I *thought* was from the movie Platoon but I would have expected it to be noted in memorable quotes... and my husband says it is not. So then I think "okay maybe from a similar movie from the same time frame??"... but I am still not finding it! I KNOW it is from the time period 1985-1990 because I remember seeing it in a theater.
All I remember is a group of soldiers invading a local village and killing everyone... I know, typical... but the defining point is a comment about a "West Point Abortion" and they empty a machine gun into the gut of a pregnant Vietnamese woman.
There was a Platoon knock-off called Platoon Leader, although I've not seen that film, nor have I ever heard this scene described in connection with that film (or any other). But you made me think of the title.
Hi ! my name is Eric Hahn. I worked as an actor/stuntman in both Hamburger hill and Platoon,so I think I can help you. The scene was from Platoon. But I worked in over 30 different vietnam films and can say that we did similar scenes in several of them. But platoon was the most famous. Please feel free to write me anytime. at [email protected] Eric Hahn
Are you sure? I checked the Platoon script and I didn't find it anywhere. I also posted this question on a I Need To Know Board and a user says it's from Casualties of war. Maybe that helps.
Its not Platoon. I know it off by heart. They DO invade a village and kill a lot of locals but no pregnant woman. They shot a one legged man, an older woman and we saw a hut full of bodies. There was also a raping of a 12 year old girl, no pregnant woman. Its not Hamburger Hill either, just finished watching it.
You might be thinking of casualties of war with Michael J. Fox? She's not pregnant but the squad take her from a village and drag her around for a few days, raping her and then end up shooting her down after stabbing her... that's all i can think of.
It could be from a film like Dead Presidents or one that only has a small section set in Vietnam. I've seen most of the films set entirely in Vietnam and it wasn't one of them.
You guys sound pretty clued up with war movies so hopefully you can help me :)
k this has been gnawing away at me for years all i got is there were soldiers in vietnam us soldiers and they eventually get capyured yady yada and then they have to kneel in front of little holes dug in front of them then one by one get their heads chopped off into the holes, sounds lovely i know
i remember this movie being quite moving and would love to see it again, was prolly from around 1985-1990ish and possibly a mini series
You might be remembering "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence," a WWII movie with David Bowie as a POW of the Japanese. He and one of his captors become friends. At the end, when Bowie is to be executed, his Japanese friend does it with his sword.
There is a scene at the beginning of "The Exterminator" like that. Not really a Vietnam flick, but the main character (Robert Ginty) is having a flashback to Vietnam. There are several GI's on their knees tied up. I think they are on the bank of a river. An enemy soldier cuts one's head of with a machete. (Actually, he kind of slices it off.) Then the main character and his buddy break free and kill the Vietnamese soldier.
Don't remember the holes in the ground but it has been a while since I saw it. Movie came out in 1980. Hope this helps
Hello Eric, I'm watching "Hamburger Hill" as we speak. I was a teenage girl in the Vietnam era, with many friends that went over & only a few making it back. So, I too, watch all of the movies everyone has listed. I have seen this seen in Platoon, isn't this with Charlie Sheen, one of the Dillon brothers?F Then there was Full Metal Jacket, Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, no relation to the Alec....pretty bloody movie. But there was this one movie, Casualties of War, with Michael J Fox, he tried to rescue one of the VC girls that some of the guys in the platoon, kidnapped right out from her "hut" where she lived with her family. Remember that? It was horrible for her, because after they used her for "their sexual pleasures" one of the guys stabbed herm byt she got up & started walking across the bridge, attracting the VC,,,,,, Oh well, there's always stories in these movies.
Now, for the other post on this guy he's a stunt man for this movie :Eric Hahn .... stuntman: Philippines crew......read the movie credits.
And yes, I thought it was Casualties of War, that the pregnant lady or she just had a baby was killed & wasn't hers or another's breast cut off to keep from nursing the infant???
Please correct me if I've confused my movies. Gena
Various inaccuracies mentioned above. This scene (a pregnant woman being murdered) is not in Platoon. In Platoon, soldiers enter a village and torch it, killing a few people; the rest of the villagers are forced to evacuate. In one sequence, Sheen and Kevin Dillon confront peasants, lose it mentally, and two peasants are killed off screen. No pregnant woman is involved. (A side note, a 12-year-old is not raped in Platoon. She is about to be, and Sheen intervenes.)
This scene is not in Casualties of War. Nor are any body parts cut off in Casualties of War.
This scene is not in any of the films already mentioned in this thread. To name a few other ‘Nam films that don’t have this scene (or for that matter, the scene described by Greenthumb): ‘84 Charlie Mopic, The Boys in Company C, Go Tell The Spartans, A Rumor of War (all recommended by the way). It wasn’t in Siege of Firebase Gloria, although I didn’t see that film to the end.
The point is – the scene described is so notably callous and vicious, including a very specific line of dialogue, that it seems someone would have remembered it, whether from a large or small film. Most likely this scene is just mis-remembered in some way? As shown by a number of posts here, many of us can’t trust our memory.
You're right tay15 it's definately not casualties of war. I saw it recently and the girl is definately not pregnant and she is shot while stumbling away from her captors in the middle of a firefight. Is the original poster sure he's not confusing 2 diffirent movies? It was a pretty long time ago.
The only thing I can add is that it is not in Platoon, or Casualties of War. And the movie where they cut off the ladies breasts is Tears of the Sun. They do that so the women cannot feed their own children.

To the OP, you could try the Tour of Duty TV series as has been already mentioned. I recall watching some of those episodes as a kid, and remembering that they didn't pull many punches, which was shocking considering it was on network television.
Watch the 1984 Stephen King adaptation 'Firestarter' with Drew Barrymore, Heather Locklear, George C. Scott and Martin Sheen. The scene is a flashback, if I remember correctly. But it has been a long time. That's the place to start, though, I think.
Except that scene the OP is describing is for sure (100%) in King's adaptation "Firestarter," where it is called a "West Point abortion." It's not at all a Vietnam movie, but the scene is a flashback.
There are no Vietnam flashback scenes in Firestarter. In fact I don't think Vietnam is even mentioned.
However, there is a throwaway line in the book that mentions a "West Point Abortion" (where Rainbird is remembering an event in the war). Could this be where the OP's memory came from? Maybe, but it wasn't in the film.
