During the battle at firebase ripcord ( a year later but in the same area & the same unit) a highly experienced NCO from US Spec Forces was promoted to Lt's rank & given command of a rifle company--as he had his troops fortify their part of the perimeter, he gave them a speech that said, in effect: in order to survive you must ONLY think of War & nothing else.
