What did Cronauer say to Trinh just before he left?

This has been bugging me for quite some time now: After the "baseball" game and Cronauer was about to leave for the airfield, Trinh came by to see him off. They talked ahwile and the last words Cronauer and Trinh said was in some foreign language. (French perhaps?). Anyone know what they said?

Trinh: We are so different.
Cronauer: I say tomato, you say kaitomat (that's what I heard, probably "tomato" in Vietnamese).

The music starts, Cronauer opens his mouth to try to say something else, but Trinh gives him her hand, they shake hands, bow to each other, and he mumbles something that sounds like "See ya"...
