One thing that's never made sense to me is when Cronauer asks the General, "What about the show?" after Dickerson informs him he's being discharged. Why would he even care about the show at that point? If I were in AC's shoes, I wouldn't give two hoots about the bloody radio show and I'd be delirious about going home!

I actually had the pleasure of meeting the real Adrian Cronauer at a benefit for the Vietnam Vets Association. He was honorably discharged after being in Saigon for a year because his tour was up. A lot of the movie, as he has said profusely, is fiction. The ending of the movie was touching. He thanked the students from the English class by playing softball, with melons by the way. He then shook Garlick's hand and wished him well. The movie ends with his plane taking off and Garlick playing a farewell recording from Cronauer saying goodbye to everyone. As far as why would he care about the show? Go back to the scene where he entertained the troops. His being there did make a difference to them and their experience over there. He really cared about the men and their safety.
