One of the funniest scenes in the movie is with Jimmy Wah and Adrian:

Jimmy Wah: "Any movement on the Walter Brennan thing?"

Adrian Cronauer: "No, and it doesn't look good, Jimmy."

Jimmy Wah: "He looks good to me."

Anyone seen Walter Brennan before (if not, here's a link to a photo in his prime: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Walter_Brennan_in_Meet_John_Doe_trailer.jpg)? Not so handsome...which makes this scene even more funny!

When he says that I always picture Brennan from Rio Bravo.as Stumpy. Makes it funnier to me.

Just out of curiousity, is there a statute of limitations on nit-picking?

I happen to agree with you that it is wrong to attribute dialogue to the improper character, FWIW.

Jake: How often does the train go by?
Elwood: So often that you won't even notice it.
