what happened to Tuan (aka Phan Duc To)

As I saw Robin chase him and say ''this wo';t look good on my resume'' and that was it.

What happened to that character in the end ?

LOL! This is the first time that I'm perusing through the GMVN posts. Wow, there are a lot!!! :-)

To answer your question, Tuan disappeared on the editor's floor among the cut scenes. Right after the Cronauer/Tuan confrontation scene and before the "This will not look good on my resume!", Tuan was trying to explain to Cronauer his perspective...that of a boy seeing his family ripped apart from a foreign enemy. At the airport, right after Garlick said his goodbye to Cronauer, Tuan appeared again to apologize to Cronauer for betraying his trust and for getting him kicked out.

I was told by either Mark Johnson or Barry Levinson (I forgot whom) that those scenes were viewed by some audience as too sympathetic toward the Vietnamese side when they initially test screened it. And that scene at the airport was the hardest scene for me to do! Dang it! :-)

If I were to venture a guess, Tuan probably would continue doing what he believed was the right thing for his family and country...

Hang on, are you the guy that played him in the film? If you are, you were great.

I agree, your character was one of my favorites. You had a lot of good scenes with Robin.

It's probably best that that scene got cut. Not because it would have been sympathetic to the Vietnamese side (which would be a good thing IMO), but because it would have been so unrealistic. A known and wanted member of the Vietnamese resistance to the US occupation showing up in an airport filled with US military personnel, putting himself at tremendous risk, just to say goodbye to his friend? Just no way. It would have been better for Tuan and Cronauer to have that would-be airport scene as part of the confrontation in the village that did turn out to be their last encounter.

By the way, you did a great job in the movie. Yours was my favorite character.

I would also venture a guess that they removed the Airport Apology scene as it wouldn't make sense at this point in the movie. The main reason he was dismissed was because the blemish of being connected to a Terrorist would be too bad to cover up and the kid was obviously known and photographed, with the army actively looking for him. Going to the Military Base, with MP's all around would be suicide and not make any sense. If anything, they should have had him sneak into the village where they played Baseball and apologize alongside his Sister.
