It is an important lesson. A man shouldn't even acknowledge a woman's existence if she isn't pretty. In fact, it's not even technically correct to refer to them as "women".
Really the only thing that disappointed me about the movie is that they didn't lock that girl up in the Home For the Ugly at the end.
Is prettiness a required attribute for friendship..?
