Beverly Hills Cop VS Fatal Beauty...companion piece?

I heard somewhere that this movie had legal action taken against it by the producers of BEVERLY HILLS COP, on charges of plagiarism. I haven't been able to verify this story yet, but I always felt that more originality would have helped...

...Like Rita going AWOL from Beverly Hills to Detroit in pursuit of her sister's murderers, then doing her bit for the Detroit PD - while scrambling to keep them from discovering that her "transfer" is really no transfer at all. Meanwhile, Rita's boss sends her former partner to find her, to make sure she doesn't get out of hand...and, later, to arrest her because she happens to be involved with a major drug ring. Actually, the chief himself is involved with the drug ring, and Rita is closer to exposing him than she realizes. What neither Rita nor her boss knows is that the partner, too, is involved with a rival syndicate - and setting them both up for murder. Back in Detroit, Rita opens up a large can of worms (read: police corruption) at the precinct almost without trying.

That being said, if you're in the right mood, FATAL BEAUTY is great fun. However, my own personal choice for the lead would have been Linda Blair of THE EXORCIST fame...partly because this movie was directed by Tom Holland, who's much better known for horror films than action-comedy.

Does anybody agree with this? Disagree? Why or why not?

Fatal Beauty was a poor BHC wannabe!

I liked it better than BHC and had a harder edge to it. It has a slick and stylish mid 80's feel about it and didn't pull many punches violence or language wise. Goldberg, was also funny, in her own Whoopi way.

I was one in the crowds of shoppers; to hard to spot. Some of these extras "overact", when you won't even hardly see them.

There was a funny bitchy exchange between 2 extras in the crowd scene: this elderly woman told a young female extra that she needed to move 6" (or something) to one side, and the younger one says "Yeah, like the camera is going to framed on you!"

I hardly think it mattered, as the film was a flop and hardly anyone would have seen either of them, least of all the rest of the film. Pity, because I have always liked it and it has plenty of replay value for me. Terrific, slick, mid 80's atmospheric rush.

I think the title would have been an off putter and even confusing, as it was the same year as FATAL ATTRACTION. The action scenes weren't as cheesy as BHC and the violence made a stronger impact. The psycho's in it were meaner and it also had a fairly reasonable, anti-drug message. Yeah, it was like a female version of BEVERLY HILLS COP; but unfortunately, Goldberg mustn't have had the pulling power of Murphy.

Look at the first reviewer on the other page. The whole review is about HIMSELF, as an extra.

Why would there be legal action? They weren't based on reality and BHC was so popular and hardly anyone saw Fatal Beauty.

Well, there were some similarities, like the wise cracking cop busts a drug ring story and the fact that Harold Faltermeyer did the score for both movies. That being said, the movies were quite different from each other. I loved both, but preferred FB to BHC; FB felt a lot more atmospheric and gritty. Especially the shootout in the crack house. I liked the idea that the locations started in *beep* holes and got nicer and nicer until you get to the upperclass shopping district. It really gave the impression that this drug was spreading everywhere to everybody.
