Not all cheaters are bad people, but Dan is.

He had a perfect life, and a perfect marriage. Yet as soon as a woman he barely knows suggests an affair, he instantly accepts, without any hesitation or reluctance, and he doesn't even feel bad about it. I find it a little odd how they didn't try to make him sympathetic, or explore why he did it.

Well Alex was definitely alluring to say the least. He also truly believed that she was all in for a one night stand, when she clearly wanted to connect with a man and have a lengthy relationship. It was stupid for him to not get to know her better before going with it, but at the very least she definitely fooled him into thinking it was a one time thing.
