My wife LOVES this movie, as a cautionary tale against cheating...

In case I ever start getting any ideas about one night stands with complete strangers, all I have to do is remember this psycho of a monster and how Dan, for all of Alex being bat@##% crazy, got exactly what he deserved (obviously it's not his first affair), and suddenly I can't think of any reason that would make cheating worth the trouble/risk (I mean it's not like I would get a shot wih say Scarlett Johannson either)...

Lol I like this movie too...just a good thriller. Another good thriller with Glenn Close is "Jagged Edge".

Interesting how you deem that this is not his first affair. Can I politely enquire as to what drove you to thinking this? I'm genuinely interested. Thanks 

I think that people just assume facts not in evidence in accordance with their preconceived notions. I actually thought that Dan was going slow, and was a bit apprehensive in his progression with Alex, as if he was testing new waters. He certainly didn't look like a professional adulterer to me.

Totally agree, CK.

I mean when Dan first laid with Alex in bed he was heard to remark "Oh thank God" when she complimented him on his performance - like he was unsure. Also at the book-signing party he said to Alex in regard to his friend: "Oh Jimmy's OK, he's just a little insecure like the rest of us", indicating he doubted his sexual prowess. This certainly gave me the impression that he was not a serial cheater with a huge sexual ego.
