Or "pay for play".

Those 10 seconds of sexual ecstasy can lead to a lifetime of trouble. Not worth the trouble.

The moral of the story is that one slipup will damage your marriage. That Dan is lured into an affair by a narcissist is stretching that idea perhaps but I saw it as one big dramatization of the affair scenario. It walked a fine line between showing Dan being a victim of a totally unpredictable, crazy woman but also that he was actually guilty of going part of the way, even if a lot of pressure was laid onto him.

Perhaps deeper down it was more about how you don't really know what people are like beyond how they seem at first. The biggest resonant theme for me was how Dan is an average, successful person from a seemingly good upbringing, he's well-mannered and knows how to behave and that's exactly why he fell victim of a psychopath's abuse, because no one in normal society walk around with their guard up; again, it's about how people don't assume negative things of other people. A really negative message but an ambiguous fact of life.
