So amazing how film has changed

This movie feels like a diamond to the charcoal produced nowadays. It could never be done today. The photography is real photography, it has real acting, etc, something that has completely gone out the window nowadays.

One thing I realized about it and what bothers me about 80's films is just how mediocre the subject matter was, it's all just movies about average joes, I really don't like that, but they were great nonetheless.

I'm watching some 80's movies, these days, and I relate to the first paragraph of your post. Mainstream movies were (very generally speaking) well made, with good writing and timing. They could really take you out of reality for two hours. I enjoy many movies made now, but that sensation has become rare. Pity.

I too have been watching a lot of 80's stuff lately and a few things stick out to me.

The story lines are linear and easy to follow. I'm not a fool, I can handle a convoluted, intricate plot. But too many movies today try too hard to have a twist and come off clumsy and are not an easy watch.

The writing was just so much stronger back then. Too much money now is spent on CGI, exorbitant actor salaries and advertising driven to beef up opening weekend numbers. If the studios only devoted a percentage point more of the budget to writing...

Cinematography and photography...SId and Nancy, When Harry met Sally, Fatal attraction..incredible shots of new york city. I haven't see the city look so good, real and play a character in a film in years.
