Can someone help me understand?

So I just watched the final 2 evil dead movies for the first time. They were great with great humor, but here's my question. From what I heard about evil dead 1, it seems like evil dead 2 is the same story but just more comedic. Then in army of darkness they don't even mention the first movies events. But in ash vs. evil dead they do. Can someone explain this please?

Evil Dead 2 is a sequel (but partly ignores the events with his friends for example due to rights issues), they re-shot some scenes of the 1st film because they couldn't get the footage.
Army of Darkness is a sequel to the 2nd film (they explain the events of the 2nd film) and Ash vs Evil Dead is a sequel to Army of Darkness although again they don't have the rights to mention the third film.
They mention the boomstick though (a name that only appeared in Army).
They try to the get the rights of Army.

Basically, these were low budget movies that didn't really know they were going to be the huge cult hits they became, so they didn't really try to nail down the continuity. Plus the rights issues cut into what they could do, also, so they were hindered on that front. This isn't Star Wars, they were cheap little horror and comedy films that became ADORED by fans.

I always look at it like Ash went to the past and changed history, so things don't exactly line up because of that.

Or you could read Ashmania's page and drive yourself insane. lol (just kidding, buddy!)

I would look at it as separate movies/shows with a common character. It's the style/humor/campiness that is the continuity.

And other commentors above have strong input.
