Deeply Disturbing Film

I just watched this on one of the UK networks. First time I've seen it. It was painfully, disturbingly difficult to watch. I usually can't watch films like this, they just hurt too much. I kept threatening to change the channel but had to watch. In some ways, I wish I hadn't. It left me intensely depressed. At 48 years old, I still cannot figure how humans can be so plain barbaric, so evil. And this film only gives a taste of reality under the Nazis. I hope mankind never allows this to happen again and that when nations try, they are put straight very quickly. Insanity!!!!!! Pigs!!!

That aside, this was a very good film and deserves greater publicity. It is certainly one of the most disturbing films I've seen on the treatment of Jews (I'm not Jewish). Actually, even compared with Schindlers List, it is equal to, or even better in many respects.

Humanity can do worse than this. In Russia 10 million people died more or less at the same time. What Japanese did in China was as much horrifying. But history is full of unbelievable acts of cruelty and insanity that never stopped since the dawn of mankind.

Escape from Sobibor (1987) is harrowing and shocking, but it's also joyous when the prisoners start to fight back.

It shows humanity at its worse, but also at its best

I watch a lot of documentaries on the Nazis. Including those about death camps. But I must admit that the dramatization of such atrocities, as in this film, brings home more vividly the terror that the prisoners underwent.

We in democratic countries are trying to ensure that Nazism never happens again. But as the world population increases, I fear that a similar situation might eventually return at some point. The Nazis were democratically elected and insinuated their terrors secretly, while an adulatory public applauded what the Nazis were trying to achieve. Hopefully films like this will remain a warning to what regimes like the Nazis can bring about.
