Better than Schindler's List.
Yeah, I said it. Granted, I gave both films 10's but I still consider Escape from Sobibor to be above Schindler's List. EFS gave me more scenes that have stayed with me. I felt that SL, as great as it is, tried too much to be a movie instead of going all out with the emotions of the story as EFS did. For instance, the fact that it is in black & white took away from the story for me. As much as people will make excuses for Spielberg's decision, chalking it up to artistic direction or symbolism, as a moviegoer, I want the entire experience of the story. Just because something took place before the colorization of film doesn't require that it be portrayed in the same way. That's why I liked EFS so much. It doesn't fiddle about with self-indulgence and goes straight to the heart, which is the only way a story of such magnitude should be told. Like I said, both are still near perfection, I just prefer Escape more.
