I wish I had seen this film sooner...

This must be one of Steven Spielberg's "hidden films", huh?

Anyhow, it was a real treat seeing a young Christian Bale put forth a remarkable performance for a boy his age.

It maybe my fav. Spielberg film (and I'm not a Spielberg fanboy). Loved it since I was a kid seeing it probably a couple of years after it was released. I knew then it was a GREAT movie and I still find myself watching it Everytime it comes on TV. No wonder Bale became such a famous actor. The relationship/chemistry between him and Malkovich came across as so authentic.

I'm still amazed by the number of people who haven't seen this or are just not watching it for the first time, so yes I'd def. consider it a "hidden film" or "hidden gem."

May not have done well at the box office but hey, sometimes the better ones don't always win at the box office.

I thought the music/score was perfect for the theme of the film...

One of my favorite WWII movies.

What other "hidden films" of famous directors do you know of?

That's a good question...any kind of genre in particular?

Just off the top of my head I'd say "A.I." is a forgotten about film (also by Spielberg replacing Kubrick). IMHO I love it...the ending is so profound it messed with my head. But ask the average person on the street and they've never seen or heard it. Just like EOTS.

I must confess: A.I. is another one of those films I have not touched yet...along with The Godfather.

You really should see The Godfather (and Godfather II) even if you think you won't like them. They rank as two of the greatest films ever made, IMHO. Please give them a chance.

At this point, after all the references and exaltation, I feel as if both films will be facing a legendary challenge in impressing me.

I was awestruck by this film when I first saw it at 15. I can't believe it's not on IMDB's top 250. It beats out a lot of films on that list. John Malkovich gave an amazing performance. As he always does
