Why did Penny sleep with Robbie?

I know the owner of the resort tells the waiters to charm/romance the daughters of the rich guys who were staying at the resort…but Penny was an employee there.

Also Robbie comes off as a douche…so why would Penny who’s been with Johnny in the past sleep with such a guy? She’s portrayed as one of the cool working class group folk.

What made her want to sleep with a snob like Robbie?

reply

I'm sure he was being his fake self to get some pussy. Then the true colors came out after. As usual.

reply

Even then…she wasn’t naive like Baby. She’d been around the block.

I guess it was necessary for the plot.

reply

Yep. Johnny and Penny were friends since they were kids but Robbie was probably a recent acquaintance.

reply

Johnny and Penny were a couple at one time.

reply

The cousin told Baby they were a couple when they was young when baby first met the group in the staff quarters.

reply

Yeah, that made it seem like jr high

I would have to think that wasn't Penny's first season working there. I think she would be wise about the frat boys that go there to work the tables.

reply

I suppose she was desperate as knowing another season of having to give dance lessons.

reply

I think Penny was taken in by his good guy act. She thought he was interested in her — not just for sex. He probably played the long game and won her trust.

I think that's the right answer. Even Dr. Houseman was taken in by Robbie's charm and "class" - the dude was going to med school for Pete's sake - didn't fit the "cad" stereotype. I'm guessing Robbie may have been a first-year employee at Kellerman's and his douche baggery wasn't yet known.

What did you mean by “performer”? (Robbie was a waiter, not a performer.)

reply

Fair enough, waiter - worker... edited. The point is that Robbie may have been a relative unknown to the group.

reply

I was curious what you meant because the film makes a point of stating that the wait staff were all college-bound somewhat privileged young people, and were considered “better” than the “entertainment” workers who were “riff raff.”

reply

The actual thought process was to comment simply that most of the group knew each other from previous summers, and so I put "performer" in the sentence without giving it much thought that some were dancers, some were wait staff, etc., but what I mean was simply hired help.

But, Robbie also pinch hit for Johnny when Vivian Pressman was looking for nookie while Moe played cards all night, so maybe in that way, Robbie was indeed a performer!!

Robbie was a Chad. Big college boy promised her $$$ and ❤️❤️❤️ and she fell for it like they always do. The insecure naive types like Penny are always the first to fall. They’re all talk.
