This film contains some of Paul Kersey's best off the cuff lying

"My name's Leo"

"Don't I know you from the...Sunset police station?"

"Boise (?)"

"Check his safe deposit box; you'll find a lot of cash in it!"

reply

How could you forget "I was making a sandwich"?

reply

 I don't know. That's probably the best one.

reply

Indeed! there's even another example:

Posing as a fish-plant worker (Paraphrasing)...
Mitch Pileggi: "What are you doing here? What section are you supposed to be in?"
Kersey: "I dunno. Just hired!" *pulls uzi out of his lunch box*

reply

LOL, oh yeah! And you also reminded me of this gem

 I just watched it at least 10 times

reply

Technically, this also counts

reply

I always thought the best was

"I was just using the toilet". The way he said it all trying to be low key turned it into brilliant.

reply

Yeah, pretending to be a caterer named Leo who's totally unmoved about stumbling onto a murder 

I'd have loved to see Kersey scoring that caterer job, too

reply

His lies are more convincing than his truths. Like when the detectives show up at his architecture business after that goofy bastard in the ripped up shirt at the amusement park gave up those last 3 license plate numbers. They ask a series of questions on his whereabouts on a particular day and time and whether he's divorced, and his responses are dispassionate and needlessly vague, and for the latter giving way more information than was asked - "My wife and daughter are dead".

thats what I love about kersey, he never says more than he needs to and seems to know exactly what to say on the spot to usually cover his a$$.

I think the only one person he had an initial tough time was with fraker from death wish 3 who was onto kersey from the beginning and was a tough cookie himself.
