Sadly Predicted the Future
There's a great scene where William Hurt's smug character presents his 'date rape' news item, winning over all his colleagues, especially the women in the room. The only one to call out the bullshit human-interest pap masquerading as 'news' is the super-smart Albert Brooks character who dismisses the item with the put-down "You really blew the lid off nookie" which all the women in the room predictably groan at. But he was *right* and the Hurt character is later revealed to be a pseudo-feminist snake (ironically, like *sooo* many men in Hollywood; have they never seen this wonderful film?!?) manipulating people, particularly women, as *so many* pseudo-feminist pretty boy simps do, to gain their trust and elevate his own position (when Holly Hunter's character discovers he faked a tear during the date rape item).
Anyway, the sad point is that the film predicted the future of 'news' and 'documentaries' which is now full of lame-brained 'human interest' woe-is-me *pap* rather than *serious* and *proper* *hard* news, with facts, stats and *information*. Any 'feminist' who foolishly disagrees with me, needs to watch this *brilliant* and *acclaimed* film, and reassess their position. This is what happens when we pander to feelings, instead of maintaining aloof and rigid standards. π
Just look at the Channel 4 and BBC2 schedules these days. These are supposedly meant to be 'serious channels' but their schedules are no different from the CRAP we see on Channel 5 or Netflix. It's all full of Johnny Depp/Amber Heard, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, "My Father Was a Pedo" human interest twaddle. π
