I just watched Broadcast News again on cable after having not seen it in about 20 years and Joan Cusack looks awful. She looks like Boy George's twin sister. Was her makeup & hair suppose to be that unattrative looking?! I don't think so because she had the same look in Working Girl. I know she's not a great beauty but she does look better with a more toned down look. Unfortunately she hasn't aged well either.
shareI agree. She did not look too good in this movie. I think we're supposed to believe that because she is young, she doesn't understand that muted and not heavy tones work better on fair skin. But it was the 80s, so big hair was in back then.
shareThe reason she looks awful is that she isn't attractive really. It was the 80's and they made her look uglier unfortunately. That lantern jaw on Holly Hunter is something to see as well! :)

I loved this movie because they made Joan look like I did when working in the newsroom back in the 80's. We all were trying our best right outa school/internship programs...to look made up, big hair, do 16 hours (sometimes plus) a day where the make-up was not as good as it is now, we were young and ambitious only to be first fired....we all looked like pancake-drag queens after a few hours...she was overly done up for sure on purpose...
