WILLIAM HURT IS A WASTE!!!
He will always be an overrated actor.
Back me up Harvard?
Ah, Quiz Show. Another gem. God, I loved that scene. King Bodwain. What a masterpiece.
sharenice catch cup o cakes :)
shareWilliam Hurt is one of the greatest actors on this planet. Watch The Accidental Tourist, Body Heat, Children Of A Lesser God and The Doctor.
No he is NOT. Just to let you know I've seen 3 of the 4 movies you just mentioned plus countless other performances that make me want to throw up he is so bad.
shareThen watch The Accidental Tourist about 3 times. By that time you will be blown away how good he nailed Macon Leary. He became his character. Oh and watch Altered States, Eyewitness and Gorky Park. Those ones are some of his best.
I'm not going to watch the same movie with William Hurt in it 3 times just to see if he nailed his character... daniel day lewis does that and you only need to watch it once to figure that out
shareDaniel Day's a one trick pony. Amazing in My Left Foot and thats it. Oh and Madeleine Stowe out acted him in Last Of The Mochicans, why??? Coz shes a better actor than he is.
lol... a one trick pony? Daniel Day? LOL!!! Okay, now that I know I'm speaking to a retard... this discussion is over. Seriously don't bother posting I'll be too busy laughing at how wrong you are.
shareDaniel Day-Lewis- 1 oscar, 3 oscar nominations
William Hurt- 1 oscar, 4 nominations
Now I'm no Mathematician but I'm pretty sure 4 is higher than 3.
i had to come back... i had to see if you could post a more pathetic response than last time... i gave you credit... until I saw this last one... wow, you really are a moron... now i do see your great at math... but since when does have 1 more oscar nomination have to do with how good an actor is? the oscars are nothing more than another political award show that has nothing to do with real talent... can you make a more hollow point? it's like saying julia roberts who has an oscar is better than every actress who doesn't have one... thanks jordanfarts but you need brain surgery

Oscars don't mean anything. They don't make you a good actor. John Hurt should have won for A History of Violence. You're trying to compare an actor who is over the top ( and yes tends to overact) in Daniel Day Lewis, and one who is a little more subtle. They have very different styles.
Don't ever open your mouth till you know what the shot is-Glengarry Glen Ross
William Hurt. And he was awesome in that role.
shareYou might want to update your Oscar tally. DDL is streaks ahead of William Hurt as an actor, but then again he is streaks ahead of most actors, if they could subdue their egos.
William Hurt is not a waste and I don't know what twit posted this to begin with. He was excellent in this movie. I don't get the hate for Wm Hurt on IMDB. He was an excellent actor in the 80s and for some reason decided to get out of the business.
He's still great to watch. This is one of my favorites. Accidental Tourist, also. Talk about nailing Macon Leary, one of the most introverted, annoying, yet ultimately worthy-of-love creatures ever created.

At first I couldn't figure out why you thought William Hurt was so bad...until I realized that you think DDL is so good. Obviously, your taste is only in your mouth...
Even Winona Ryder out-acted DDL...
what is with all these idiots? maryb you are an even bigger waste than william hurt... have you not seen Lewis's work. Your taste is in much more stinky and vulgar places.
shareYou have no taste.
shareI just watched part of Broadcast News (I watch it every year!) William Hurt was my favorite 80s actor. Altered States, Children of a Lesser God and The Accidental Tourist, which is his best 80s performance. He was so good in The Doctor, he wasn't even nominated for this movie! Check out a more recent supporting role in Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner. Fans might also like Michael, love the 4 actors together and he's more subdued in this movie.
shareI used to hate William Hurt as an actor. Growing up, he never really appealed to me & I always felt he was somewhat bland in all of his roles. However, after I grew up & got into my 30s I started to watch some of his movies again & realize that he brings a great deal to a role - and most of it is very discreet & hard to notice little things. This movie is a very good example of that. He could have very easily have over-played the role of Tom & made him a babbling idiot, just to show that aspect of Tom. But that would not have been realistic or feasible. Instead, he showed how Tom was completely clueless behind the scenes, but full of charisma & composure whenever the camera was on him - and he did it very well.
shareAwwww... look... jordanmarks has a boyfriend... i hope you and mydarkstarfish have a wonderful life together on william hurt's talentless taint.
shareYou just can't take it. That its 3 against 1. Oh and Day-Lewis hasn't even done comedy. Shows what range his got huh(pun intended). All he ever does is drama. Watch Hurt in I Love You To Death. His funny as all hell and he can also be funny and dramtic in The Doctor and Accidental Tourist. Lawrence Kadsan sure took a shine to him since they colaborated 4 times and Kasdan is one of the best directors ever. Anyone who made a movie like The Big Chill and wrote the screenplay to the greatest sequel ever made (Empire Strikes Back) has to be one of the best. Oh and William's filmography is so much more impressive. From Eyewitness to Body Heat to Kiss Of The Spider Woman to The Accidental Tourist to Smoke to History Of Violence.
Day-Lewis is too picky. His done like 3 films in ...what 10 years. The only decent movie and good performance I saw him in was In The Name Of The Father. The Boxer was rubbish. After a long absence he puts on a sub par and not to mention overrated performance in Gangs Of New York which by the way is one of the worst movies I have ever set eyes on. I mean its got DiCaprio thinking his top *beep* with his terrible Irish accent and his blunt knife and U2 singing at the end of a period piece. LOL. Scorsese's luckluster I say. William Hurt is a better actor all around. His more versitile than the plank of wood you call Daniel Day-Lewis. You need a new role model ok. Good for you meyeter7 for knowing what real talent is.
Like lots of actors, William Hurt has done some stinkers. But he is still one of my favorite actors, and I'll watch most movies he's done if I get a chance. He is fantastic in "Accidental Tourist" and "The Doctor", "The Big Chill", "Children of a Lesser God" and "Jane Eyre". I know many people didn't like his Rochester, but I did.
If anything, I think he is underated.
I agreed with your assessment of William Hurt. The character he portrayed couldn't possibly exist. Except in this case, it's the fault of the script. And although it wasn't Hurt, obviously, that scene with Tom as a young man and his father, the conversation was imaginary. Who talks to their father that way in what might be 1967?
shareWilliam Hurt is a wonderful, offbeat actor. He's not really a leading man, though they tried to make him that for a while, but he's a wonderful actor to watch. I love what he did in "A History of Violence."
Good point about Oscars. Look how long it took for Martin Scorsese to win one.....and Speilberg, too. And Alfred Hitchcock never won, except for a special award. William Hurt is so great at playing those 'every man' roles.
sharethe stuff he does now...yeah sure. back in the day, when he had his fastball, Hurt was da bomb
What the $%*& is a Chinese Downhill?!?
William Hurt is a wonderful actor, but I would say Daniel day Lewis is better because he's a true method actor.
