What was the deal with him being in this movie for like one minute? When I saw him listed in the credits, I thought he would at least have a good supporting role.

He won the Oscar for the last film he did with him. He's got two now for their work together. He was not credited in promotional materials, IIRC.

Nicholson was not in the main credits of the film but is shown well down in the end credits.
Nicholson is a loyal guy and won his second Oscar in a Brooks directed film and his third Oscar was also by a film directed by Brooks.
