MORNING GLORY gets called BROADCAST NEWS lite. Why?

Loved MORNING GLORY and just ordered the BROADCAST NEWS criterion blu-ray, why these unfavorable comparisons besides the setting?

To me it's the opposite. Broadcast News is about 2 journalist fighting to maintain integrity despite fighting a losing battle and Morning Glory is about finding a middle ground between integrity and entertainment which (even though it is a middle ground) is still selling out so you still have loss of integrity.

What the hell is a "loosing battle?"

IMDb no longer gets my endorsement.

Have you seen Broadcast News, timothyeraw? I wasn't sure from your post if you had but I'm guessing that you haven't seen it yet. I enjoyed Morning Glory, but Broadcast News is by far a better, deeper, greater movie. I'd go as far to call it a classic. One of James L. Brooks' best movies.

"Broadcast News" is a more substantive movie, but "Broadcast News" is offering commentary on a different kind of news show than "Morning Glory." "Broadcast News" was targeting on the national evening news shows, such as "NBC Nightly News" or "CBS Evening News" while "Morning Glory" was on the morning news programs like "NBS's Today" or "ABC's Good Morning America" where the content is typically a bit lighter.

So, I wouldn't call the comparisons unfavorable, but rather they are a good fit, in their own way, to the real-life counterparts that they are based on.
