Why would anyone be attracted to Jane?
She's a neurotic, control freak bitch.

Jane's character is smart, and many men find that attractive. As played by Holly Hunter she is also very cute.

Agreed there...Jane was loud, talkative, bossy, rather brash, stubborn, and opinionated, but also caring, eager to make sure news was done in an ethical way, and a fierce defender of the underdog on top of being intelligent and rather sensitive.
Loved Holly in that role also. Holly is just so cute, especially those big brown eyes of hers.

And to be fair, I think that's one of the film's points; Jane is a brilliant professional whose integrity should set an example for anyone in the field of journalism, but when it comes to inter-personal relationships who cares that she's an intelligent, professionally ethical crusader when she's condescending, rude, demeaning, argumentative and unforgiving, attributes one wouldn't, and arguably shouldn't, tolerate in a partner whether they're female or male. share
Holly Hunter is a physically attractive woman, for one thing.
Also, she was Tom's mentor, and people fall for their teachers sometimes.
In Aaron's case, she had been his colleague and partner for a long time, and they both had the same viewpoints and passion for how the news should be done.
She isn't that attractive physically unless you find the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz attractive. In fairness the time period of the film works against her because of the clothes and hairstyles. It wasn't a good look for her or anyone else for that matter.
She isn't attractive as a person because despite her claim she is all about integrity she ends up selling out to be with the empty headed anchorman. The fact she dumps him over his "acting" in the rape story isn't enough to salvage her credibility. Her claim that she is "right about everything" is obviously absurd as well.
The real mystery is why Aaron puts up with her. Clearly he is in to her far more than she is in to him. She isn't even that nice to him, there are several scenes in which she is sort of blowing him off. She also lies to him about the true nature of her attraction to Tom. Had Aaron known early on she was attracted to Tom, he might not have humiliated himself later by admitting his love for her. In reality he is a perfect mate for Jane but because she is a user and a climber she has no time for him.
Women claim they want guys to respect them and treat them as equals. What normally happens when you do that is you end up in the "friend zone" like Aaron. The character of Aaron should be a cautionary tale to all guys of how not to get a woman. When you offer your shoulder to cry on and also reveal your own vulnerabilities/insecurities to a woman, your chances of romance drop to near zero.
You may be able to open up to her later once you are secure in the relationship but even then it is a risk. Never let a woman know you need them that much.

Ha ha...what's this film? Found it jarring you said "not the cleanest woman", you've piqued my curiosity.
I'd say Holly Hunter used to be very attractive, and while she's not a beast by any means, she's in her late 50s now, and her face has changed enough that I'd venture to say she's lost her youthful glow and a certain "softness" she used to have.

Attracted wouldn't be the problem. Putting up with long term could be an issue.
Initially, you can clearly see that Tom is not attracted to her (he just wants her advice). Later on, you can see he's the kind of guy who just goes along with things. So if she (Jane) wants him, then he's like "alright, let's see where this goes". That's why he went out with that other woman and then went back to Jane. As for Aaron, you can clearly see he's as "weird" as Jane so they can both only relate to each other more so than to other people.
shareI felt Tom WAS attracted to her from the beginning. During her lecture in the auditorium, he was the only one paying attention to her. Yes, he sought her advice that night, but then he seemed interested in her again at the house party/luncheon. Also, after Jane assists him in a successful new anchoring, he gives the "like great sex" spiel to her and asks her to join him, but she says no.
I think it was a case of opposites attract in this case.

Whoever think she is a bitch is a real dumb bitch.
shareBecause she's awesome, fearless, intelligent, devoted, etc etc.
shareits her smarts, rawness , and honesty... something lacking in the blonde bimbo's that you probably are attracted to.
shareRight on. I myself saw this in high school and was attracted to her...I also started a major crush (I'm bisexual) on Holly Hunter herself after I saw her as Dorinda Durston in Always.
I loved Holly in Once Around as the brash, bubbly, slightly vulgar, but caring, sensitive, big-hearted Renata Bella.
In the real world, Hurt would have fuched her once she invited him up to her room.
