Surprising depth to the William Hurt character

He's a nice guy - doesn't hurt any1, tries to be a good reporter. He's so earnest, and tries to make it as a legit reporter, but struggles with subjects he knows he's out of his depth with. There's a touching scene where he's talking to his father and says "I think I can really do this". I've been there - some1 who knew he wasn't stupid, scored well on the standard tests but all over the map with grades, unsure if there was any job where he could succeed - and then when it happened - vindication! To those of us whose career path wasn't assured or even clear, very relatable.
