It's interesting how the movie takes place in 'modern times' but Radio is clearly epitomizing the heyday of early radio.

FDR had cheated on Elenor and they stayed married for pollitical reasons and she more or less did her own thing with the exception of the polio thing with FDR, but in some ways still loved him. The joke I'm pretty sure was just a cynical remark as to how there wasn't exactly a loving releationship between the two.
Never caught that actually, I haven't seen this movie in forever! A favorite though, no doubt!

FDR was often unfaithful and Eleanor probably only stayed with him for political reasons. Radio quips subtley about that, but I didn't pick this up until now, either. Hehe

I did just notice that today.
I thought it was referencing the fact that Eleanor Roosevelt was rumored to be gay and therefore would've loved her husband in a platonic way. I figured Radio was saying something like, "We love you, Kirby, but not in THAT way." That's what makes it adult, right?

Yeah I think the first assumption is wrong. If it's going to be an adult joke in a disney movie, i'm assuming it'd be a little more dirty such as the implication that maybe Kirby is so grumpy because he's gay, therefore the other appliances are saying "You can't fool us we LOVE you," as if to say that they all accept for who he is, and then radio coming out with the line about Lady Roosevelt who was rumored wildly as being a lesbian.
